EASTON, Pa. -

Teachers in the Easton Area School District will vote on a contract offer Thursday that would take more than 70 teaching positions off the chopping block.

Details on the new proposal are not available, but we're told the proposal would avoid the layoffs.

Earlier this month school officials said the school board needed to look at another plan that would eliminate 70 teaching positions.

Twelve of those cuts would be eliminated through retirements with the rest scattered throughout the district.
