Allentown will soon start work to fix a leak in the Lehigh Canal.

A cracked storm water pipe was discovered earlier this week near the Hamilton Street Bridge, city officials said.

The leak has caused the canal's water levels to drop, so the DEP has given the city an emergency permit to fix the pipe, officials said.

Repairs will start later this week.
