EMMAUS, Pa. -

Season ticket holders at Emmaus Community Park’s pool can get credits toward next summer’s season tickets.

The pool was supposed to be opened for 99 days this summer, but had to be closed the last 13 days because a pump impeller broke.

Borough council unanimously approved the season pass credit plan Tuesday night.

“We’re giving back very close to a 13 percent credit on the cost of the pass,” said council vice president Brian Holtzhafer. “And it’s for anyone who has a season pass, not residents only.”

To receive discounted 2013 pool passes, residents should present their 2012 season pool passes at Town Hall between Sept. 10 and Oct. 31, explained council member Wesley Barrett.

Pro-rated credits for next year’s season tickets will be $15 for a borough resident family season pass, $10 for an adult single pass, $5 for a youths and $3 for seniors, said Barrett.

East Penn residents will get credits of $26 for family passes, $19 for adults, $12 for children ages 6-17 and $4 for seniors.

Holtzhafer said if people don’t want to get another season pass, they can simply use the credits toward pool admission next summer. But he said council is giving people an incentive to purchase another seasonal pool pass.

Holtzhafer explained council’s parks and recreation committee, which Barrett chairs, recommended council not offer cash refunds because “we were hoping to not lose the revenue. I personally didn’t feel we should just be giving money back because of something out of our control.”

Holtzhafer said the credits are fair because people may not have lost anything if they weren’t planning to swim in the pool during those last 13 days.

Barrett noted there would be no credits or refunds if it had rained those last 13 days.

Barrett said borough officials attempted to get a replacement part to reopen the pool but were unable to do so.

Also during council’s meeting, Mayor Winfield Iobst announced Trick-or-Treat night will be on Halloween: 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31.

He encouraged residents who want to participate to turn on their porch lights during those hours.
