Friends, family and neighbors gathered tonight to remember a mother and son killed in a fiery crash this weekend. Close to 100 people were at the candlelight vigil in Whitehall Township.
Saturday night 16-year-old George Sanchez was driving with his mother Sharon Gonzalez-Medina when a speeding pickup truck slammed into them. The car caught on fire and they both died. Wednesday night friends and family came together to try and get through the pain.
"Thank you for being in our lives and showing us care and love and support no matter what when we needed you the most."
It was a chance to pray together and remember together.
"Consider my son as your angel," shared George's father George Sanchez. "He's going to be protecting you guys because I know he meant a lot to you and you meant a lot to him."
As the tears came, so did the pain of two lives taken so suddenly. George, known as Jaffy, was a junior at Whitehall High School. Many of his classmates came to mourn him.
"If I ever had a problem - even if I just knew him a little bit - he was always there."
Jaffy's mother Sharon Gonzalez-Medina was also lost in the wreck. Family spoke about taking something positive from this horrible tragedy.
"Forgive one another, love one another," said Sharon's husband Enrique Rodriguez. "Be in peace with one another because life is short."
As mourners remembered the mother and son, they couldn't stop the laughter, recalling happier times they shared. Jaffy and Sharon were taken too soon, leaving a hole in the hearts of those who love them.
"He's in heaven watching over us and he loves all of us," cried George's sister Alanny Sanchez Gonzalez.
Mother and son will be laid to rest in Puerto Rico. A memorial service is set for Thursday night at 7 p.m. at the Bethesda Church in Emmaus. It's unclear if charges will be filed in this accident.
