LYNN TWP., Pa. -

Some Lehigh County students had a rather fishy excuse for ditching the classroom Friday.

About 200 students from Northwestern Lehigh School District released brook trout into Ontelaunee Creek in Lynn Township.

It was part of a program called Pennsylvania Trout in the Classroom.

"By learning that in the classroom, in the aquarium, they still have to understand the chemistry involved with keeping them alive, how much food it takes to raise these animals, so these are the different things they're picking up with the program," said Andrew Desko, regional education specialist for the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission.

The program, sponsored by Deer Park Water Company, is in about 250 schools across the state.
