SCHNECKSVILLE, Pa. -

When you think endangered species, you may think about elephants and pandas,  not necessarily frogs.  But did you know there are four endangered species of frogs in Pennsylvania?

Scientists say in the last decade, the populations of more than 200 species of frogs have declined.

The Lehigh Valley Zoo is promoting conservation of the amphibians through education  One thing they're doing is a FrogWatch program, aimed at teaching citizen scientists.  They're also promoting being kind to the environment to slow down the decline of certain species.

Miranda Clark, Conservation Educator and FrogWatch Coordinator for the Lehigh Valley Zoo, says, "We are expecting to lose about a third of those species in our lifetime.  That's due to habitat destruction, diseases, pollution and things like that."

Sheri Peters, Director of Conservation Education for the zoo, said, "You want to make sure that you're not wasting water, you're not dumping chemicals down the drains, or when you're washing your car make sure you're using environmentally friendly materials."

Part of the reason keeping the water clean is so important to frogs is because they actually breathe through their skin, meaning they take in pollutants that way.
