EASTON, Pa. -

Hundreds of families got a helping hand in Easton Wednesday.

The local Salvation Army partnered with the Feed the Children organization to hand out food and other items to more than 400 families.

Feed the Children has been holding these events since 2009, but never in Easton before.

"This is the first time we're doing it here in Easton and we are hoping and praying that we can keep the partnership because this place has been packed," said major Alberto Suarez, the area coordinator for the Lehigh Valley Salvation Army.

Each family received 25 pounds of food, which organizers say should last them about a week.
