Local chef Alan Pitotti rises to fame on TV
A local chef has put his business on the culinary map after being named a "Sweet Genius" on the Food Network.
Alan Pitotti was crowned the winner of a nationally-televised reality cooking show.
You may know Alan Pitotti's face from billboards around the area.
Now the Pen Argyl, Northampton County native is the newest "Sweet Genius".
"It's a very overwhelming feeling," said Pitotti, the owner of Dolce Patisserie. "It kind of took over my whole body. 'Wow, what an accomplishment'."
Alan and his wife are huge fans of the Food Network.
After two lengthy interviews, Alan got the call to be on the show.
"That was July 3rd so we had July 4th to kind of celebrate that," said Pitotti.
The dream almost came crashing down in the first round.
"Suddenly I'm watching my entire chocolate cylinder disintegrate," added Pitotti. "It's melting, my chocolate mousse must have been too warm. No good can't use that."
In round two came a compliment.
"I want to tell you, this toffee is one of the best toffees I have had in my life," said show host, Ron Ben-Israel.
Not only does he make toffee, Pitotti makes cakes and candy-- all at his business Dolce Patisserie in Hellertown.
"To bring that win home to this small area," said Pitotti. "I love it here, grew up near here."
It takes Pitotti four hours to create certain masterpieces and it looks like he'll be in the kitchen a lot more now because business has increased since winning Sweet Genius.
"The two days we've been open after the show aired sales have almost been six times what they normally are, which is great, a little scary."
Chef Pitotti says he's also so glad for all the support from the community and can't wait for more people to stop by.
