BANGOR, Pa. -

A young man is in trouble with the law for giving a teen alcohol and encouraging him to drink himself into a stupor that sent him to the hospital.

Officials said Cory A. Degroat gave 190-proof Everclear and apple cider moonshine to a 15-year-old boy and encouraged him to "chug it" in his home at 219 N. 4th St., Bangor on Wednesday.

Police found the boy "barely conscious," after they were sent to Degroat's home around 8 p.m. to assist an EMS crew with a case of alcohol poisoning. The boy was  taken to the hospital.

Court papers do not reveal why the teen was in Degroat's home or their relationship.

Degroat, 19, was arraigned on charges of endangering the welfare of a child, corruption of minors, furnishing liquor to a minor and underage drinking and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $8,000 bail, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. Nov. 1.
