2 remaining suspects in Lehigh University robbery in custody, police say
The two other suspects involved in a stickup on the campus of Lehigh University in Bethlehem last week are now in custody.
Rafael A. Negron Jr. and Jose C. Andino were arrested as accomplices of Luis D. Maldonado and Jose A. Rivera in robbing Ron Medina of his book bag, cell phone, laptop and wallet at Taylor Street and Memorial Walkway on the Lehigh campus at about 1:15 a.m. last Wednesday, officials said.
Medina was grabbed by the back of his neck and had a CO2 pellet gun held to his head during the robbery, officials added.
Negron was taken to police headquarters Tuesday night after investigators spoke with his cousin, Jesley Rivera, who told investigators that Negron, her boyfriend Andino, Maldonado and Rivera were in her apartment at 504 Broadway, Bethlehem, the night before the robbery.
Negron later confirmed Andino participated in the robbery, officials said.
Northampton County Assistant District Attorney Michael Thompson approved charging Negron and Andino as adults, officials said.
Negron, 17, of 609 Wyandotte St., and Andino, 18, of 58 West Union Blvd., both of Bethlehem, were charged with robbery, criminal conspiracy, theft, receiving stolen property, assault and possessing an instrument of crime, according to court documents.
Bail was set at $25,000 for both suspects, and they were committed to the Northampton County Prison, court papers show.
A preliminary hearing for both is set for 9 a.m. July 12.
