A group of young girls from Bethlehem decided to shed their long hair for a good cause Saturday.

Abigail Wenger, a 5th grade student at Asa Packer Elementary in Jim Thorpe, organized a Locks of Love event.

It was held at JSK Salon in Easton.

Abigail and her classmates each cut more than 10 inches off their hair to donate.

The hair will be made into wigs for children who have lost their hair because of cancer or other diseases.

Abigail said she was inspired by one of her teacher to cut her hair.

"Mrs Lions, my fourth grade reading teacher used to do it every other year and would ask anyone in the school if they would do it, but she just had a baby - they were pulling on the hair -- so I decided I would organize it this year," she said.

The girls said it makes them feel good knowing they're helping someone in need.
