Kids who are new to Allentown and the U.S. are learning about all sorts of trades.

Students from Allentown School District's Newcomer Academy today toured Lehigh Career and Technical Institute in North Whitehall Township.

The academy features intensive English courses and other classes to help acclimate them to the U.S.

Tuesday students learned about cooking, landscaping, plumbing and other essential trades.

"They got a chance to actually get comfortable and see what we've been talking to them about because we've talked to them about colleges and careers and so forth at school but this was a chance to see it firsthand," said Cheryl Pribanich with Allentown School District.

Newcomer students will have LCTI on the options list for next year and some kids we spoke with say they'd like to take classes there.
