BETHLEHEM, Pa. -

An airborne hot air balloon doesn't sound like it'd cause much trouble, but tell that to three motorists who were on Interstate 78 last week.

State police said the balloon's basket was unsecured in the back of a pickup truck driven by Richard Bryant of Easton when the basket flew out of the pickup bed around mile marker 65.4 in the City of Bethlehem Wednesday around 3:30 p.m.

The basket was first hit by a car driven by John Nemetch of Allentown, police said.

The basket then became airborne and hit and broke the driver's side window of a van driven by Warren Nelson of Kutztown.

Then the basket landed on the hood of a car driven by Jenny Fernenez of Allentown.

Nelson was injured by broken glass, but refused treatment, police said.

State troopers from the Belfast barracks are investigating this crash.
