ALLENTOWN, Pa. -

Longtime Allentown Police Officer Daryl Hendricks announced today that he is running for Allentown City Council.

In a news release issued today, Hendricks, currently a Captain with the department, said he is "a candidate to fill one of four Allentown City Council positions." Hendricks said he is running as a Democrat.

Hendricks cited his "strong desire to continue his service to his community and his commitment to Allentown's public safety" as his reasons for considering a council seat.  Hendricks said he will be retiring from the police department at the end of the year.

Hendricks has been on the force since 1972. The lifelong Allentown resident previously served with the South Whitehall Police Department for over two years.

In addition to his police duties, Hendricks also serves as 1st Vice President on the "Dream Come True" Board of Directors. The organization helps grant wishes for seriously, chronically and terminally ill children from the Lehigh Valley.
