The Allentown School Board approved the proposed 2013-2014 budgets for Lehigh Carbon Community College and Lehigh Career & Technical Institute at its Finance/Committee of the Whole Meeting on Thursday night.
The proposed budget for the Community College for next year is $35,775,570. This budget is a 1.3% increase over last year’s budget, or approximately $463,245. The Allentown School District will be responsible for $1,469,359 of the total budget as a sponsoring school district of the Community College. This appropriation is a 2.9% increase over last year’s appropriation of $1,428,590 from ASD.
According to Ann Bieber, Senior Vice President for Administrative Services at LCCC, the Community College is expecting a 1% enrollment growth for next year, which has brought their operation costs up. Bieber mentioned that the Community College has increased course cost for students by $2.00 per credit to help revenue and off-set operating costs at the facility.
The proposed budget for LCTI for the 2013-2014 school year is $15,196,015, with an estimated cost of $5,379.12 per pupil at the facility. The Allentown School District will be responsible for almost half of the proposed budget at 45.34%. The total cost to ASD for LCTI is an estimated $6,669,761.94.
The Allentown School Board approved both proposed budgets at the committee level. The proposed budgets will be put on the agenda for the regular School Board meeting to be held on April 25th for final approval.
