ALLENTOWN, Pa. -

A group in Allentown is trying to give residents a say in the city's plan to lease the city's water and sewer systems.

A meeting was held Sunday to recruit people interested in circulating a petition.

The petition calls for a referendum to decide the sale, lease, or transfer of any city land worth more than $10 million. Organizers say they need at least 2,000  signatures of registered voters and they hope a referendum will be held as part of next May’s primary election.

"Our goal is to recruit 50 circulators, petition circulators that can take these around the neighborhoods take them to their polling places, take them to public events take them to their churches whatever," said Dan Poresky.

Another meeting will be held at the Allentown Brew Works on Thursday night.
