The puck won't drop at the hockey arena in Allentown for awhile, but we now know what the team's official name will be.

The minor league team announced Wednesday that it will be called "The Lehigh Valley Phantoms."

“We are excited to play in Allentown and proud to be a part of the city’s revitalization, which will enhance the entire region,” said team co-owner Rob Brooks. “We feel strongly that we will be the home team for the entire Lehigh Valley. That commitment is reflected in our development of Phantoms Charities with Air Products to benefit the whole Lehigh Valley, the launch of our G.O.A.L. program throughout Lehigh Valley’s schools, and now in our official team name.”

The team is the American Hockey League's top development team of the NHL's Philadelphia Flyers.

The Phantoms have made a 30-year commitment to play at Allentown’s new arena, whose founding partners include Air Products, Lehigh Valley Health Network and Service Electric Cable TV and Communications.

Arena seats are now on sale, and fans are encouraged to visit the team website at or call 610.224.GOAL (4625).

The team is expected to take the ice at the arena in 2014.
