ALLENTOWN, Pa. -

What better way to mark its 250th anniversary than for Allentown to throw a parade and festival?

City officials, along with a variety of community partners, made the announcement at a news conference Wednesday morning.

Mark your calendar for September 29 to join in on the festivities.

It won't be just any parade but a journey through time.

The parade is organized in six divisions, with each representing a 50-year period in Allentown's history, beginning with the city's founding in 1762.

Another division will represent the future.

The public is also invited to showcase their Allentown pride, talent and creativity, and to march from the Allentown Fairgrounds to Ninth and Hamilton streets.

The parade will end at the PPL Plaza where the Festival will continue until 7 p.m.

Those interested in participating in the parade will be given a list of suggested historical milestones which they could choose to represent.

A group or business could show its place in Allentown history.

City officials say the goal of the event is to showcase the rich history of Allentown.

The City Without Limits: Points of Pride Parade and Festival will begin at 11 a.m.

To signup for the parade, download a form at www.allentown250.com or request registration materials by contacting Wendie at 610-433-7777, ext. 25.

Registration forms are due no later than June 30.
