Angela Gara, woman wanted on warrant, facing new charges, police say
A woman wanted on a warrant in Philadelphia is facing charges in connection with a reported carjacking in Easton, officials said.
Angela M. Gara was stopped in the 400 block of Northampton Street driving a black Saturn Ion with New Jersey plates owned by Bruce Herb at about 2:25 a.m. Monday, officials said.
The car had been reported stolen at knifepoint outside 411 Northampton St. about 20 minutes earlier, and was seen swerving erratically at a high rate of speed in the 200 block of Northampton Street, around Center Square and into the 300 block of Northampton Street, officials said.
The driver identified herself to police as Angela Rivera-Gallett as well as several other aliases, and when she left the car, an officer noticed a crack pipe wedged into one end of the driver's seat, officials said.
After police determined the woman's identity, they discovered that Gara was wanted on a larceny warrant in Philadelphia, officials said.
When Gara was taken to jail, she asked for leniency because "I am disabled," officials added.
Gara, 50, of 220 Broadway, Bethlehem, was arraigned on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, making false identification to police, careless driving and driving without a license and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $25,000 bail, according to court documents.
A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. March 4.
