A woman caught shoplifting from a Walmart was also found to have stolen merchandise from a nearby Goodwill store, officials said.

April M. Nieves was arrested after walking away from a register wearing a black Faded Glory jacket worth $29.96 without paying for it in the Walmart at 3926 Nazareth Pike, Bethlehem Twp., Northampton Co., at about 3:40 p.m. Saturday, officials said.

Store security told police that Nieves abandoned bags she had filled with merchandise from the store when she suspected she was being watched, officials said.

Nieves also had five shirts, a black Route 66 jacket, two purses and three handbags from a Goodwill store at 3928 Nazareth Pike, Bethlehem Twp., that were later found to be stolen, officials said, adding the merchandise was worth a total of $35.45.

Nieves admitted to the thefts at Walmart and the Goodwill store and told investigators that she stole in part because of a drug habit, officials said.

Nieves, 32, of 324 Fillmore St., Bethlehem, was arraigned on two retail theft charges and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $15,000 bail, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. Dec. 24.
