The death sentence appeal of mass murderer Michael Ballard is now in the hands of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.

Ballard admitted killing his ex-girlfriend Denise Merhi, her father, her grandfather, and a neighbor who ran to their aid when he heard their cries for help.

Ballard had only been out of prison for a few months.

The murders took place at a Northampton home back in 2010. He was sentenced to death the next year.

The appeal is expected to be heard next Tuesday.

Northampton County District Attorney John Morganelli expects a "zero percent chance" of the court ruling in favor of Ballard.
