BETHLEHEM, Pa. -

Tired of looking for a meter when you go to Bethlehem?  Let the parking authority park your car for you.

The Bethlehem parking authority started valet service last month and so far it's been a hit with business owners and the customers.

Forget loading the meter.

Or even parking in a garage when you go to historic Bethlehem.

Now you can have someone park the car for you.

“Valet services themselves adds a special touch to any business," said Tom Hartley, executive director for the Bethlehem parking authority.

"It enhances a sense of arrival, gives it a unique warm welcome and a fun farewell.”

The service started in November as a test program.

Drivers drop off their keys at one of three locations.

The north side of Main Street by West Broad, the south side of Main Street by Hotel Bethlehem, or at the ArtsQuest Steel Stacks campus.

Parking is three bucks plus a dollar an hour on Main Street.  Five dollars plus a dollar an hour at SteelStacks.

"I think it just enhances the competitive advantage of our downtown shops and restaurants," said Hartley. "We have some stellar shops and restaurants in the Christmas City.”

"I like the fact that I can come out at the end of the night and show a ticket without walking a couple of blocks,” added Leonard Tabone, who is using the service for the first time.

"It's been a wonderful addition to Bethlehem, said Staci Kaiazzo, owner of Molto Pazzo. "The shoppers love it too.”

Business owners say they have seen a lot more customers use the service and while it hasn't increased profits yet.

Owners say it's another lure for people thinking of spending money in the Christmas City.

“It's easier to get to the shops and the restaurants when you don't have to worry about finding parking," added Kaiazzo.

"I think people are more willing to come to downtown Bethlehem. I know it's been an issue for many of people.”

Now the service is open from 5 pm to 11pm Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
