BETHLEHEM, Pa. -

A Lehigh Valley school district is throwing its support behind plans to rebuild an aging middle school.

At a committee meeting Monday night, the Bethlehem Area School District recommended rebuilding Nitschmann Middle School.

The school, located at 909 W. Union Blvd.,  was built in the 1920's and its fate has been discussed for years.

The full school board is expected to vote later this month to authorize the process of designing the new school.

Officials say it's on track to open in 2017.
