Brothers busted in theft, sale of tire rim
A man who stole an aluminum tire rim and his brother, who sold it to a scrap yard, are in trouble with the law, officials said.
Jeffrey C. Matthews took the $400 rim and a $400 Super Swamper tire from the rear of Kyle Ghigliotty's home at 1050 West Nesquehoning St., Easton, at about 12:50 p.m. Monday, and his brother, William C. Matthews sold it for $14.85 to Easton Iron and Metal, 1100 Bushkill Drive, later that same day, officials said.
William Matthews told police his brother gave him the rim to sell, and Jeffrey Matthews admitted to taking the rim and tire from Ghigliotty's property and cutting the tire off the rim, officials said.
Jeffrey Matthews, 43, and William Matthews, 41, both of 933 West Nesquehoning St., Easton, were arraigned Tuesday night, according to court papers.
Jeffrey Matthews was charged with theft, criminal mischief and receiving stolen property and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $8,000 bail, and William Matthews was charged with receiving stolen property and released on $8,000 unsecured bail, according to court documents.
A preliminary hearing for both men is set for 10 a.m. March 15.
