WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. -

A would-be burglar is in the hospital with burns over 50 percent of his body after he hit a live wire while trying to steal copper piping, officials said.

Allentown police said they received a call Monday afternoon from St. Luke's Hospital, where the alleged burglar was taken by a friend after being shocked.

The man was apparently trying to steal copper from the old Lehigh Valley Diary property at 1049 MacArthur Rd. in Whitehall Twp., Lehigh Co.

Police had no information about the man's name or condition.
