Callahan submits his amusement tax proposal to city council
Bethlehem Mayor John Callahan says he now has the support of ArtsQuest and the Sands Bethlehem Events Center for his proposed amusement tax.
The ordinance is part of the mayor's 2013 budget plan as a way to keep real estate taxes down.
It would add five percent to tickets for concerts and events in the city.
But the tax cannot exceed $1.50. Tickets less than $10 would remain tax exempt and so would venues that seat 200 or less.
Mayor Callahan submitted the proposal to City Council Thursday.
