Christmas breakfast in Bethlehem feeds both body, soul
As most know, Christmas is a time of giving and receiving not just presents, but also your presence with others.
A holly, jolly Christmas at New Bethany Ministries in Bethlehem started with carols on the piano, smiles from across the table and the smell of breakfast.
"We are reaching out to everybody who is homeless and doesn't have a place to go for Christmas," said Pam Lewis, with New Bethany Ministries.
This is the second year Karen Sinkovitz and her family have served at New Bethany on Christmas.
"It's very rewarding, and we love serving," said Sinkovitz.
Each year, dozens of volunteers cook, serve and clean up so others can have a little Christmas cheer, but the folks will tell you it's more than just another hot meal.
"It is a celebration, and it is a joyous time for us to have so many people here and we are offering hope, food, support and love, and that is what Christmas is about," said Lewis.
But for the volunteers and the Christmas guests, it's not just a chance to feed the stomach, but also to feed the soul.
New Bethany officials said for some of the people, this will be the only hot meal they will have all day and perhaps the only opportunity to enjoy the spirit of the season.
Marvin Martinez came to the celebration with his family. He said he enjoyed his Christmas breakfast and wanted to share some of the cheer he has received with others.
"I wish everyone a Christmas, merry Christmas," said Martinez.
