BETHLEHEM, Pa. -

Bethlehem is looking to Lehigh University to help fill a budget gap.

The city wants the school to pay up for keeping its police force busy.

Bethlehem's police chief says last year his officers responded to more than 1,000 calls in the area immediately surrounding Lehigh's campus.

He says those calls cost the city some $54,000 in police time.

Lehigh University says it's worked continuously with the city in committing human and financial resources toward initiatives that will have long term benefits to Bethlehem.
