A man is facing charges in connection with the theft of jewelry from a woman's home in mid-December while her relatives were hanging Christmas decorations, officials said.
Dylan W. Cawley said he used a house key given to his mother by Julia Berezny to steal $6,050 in jewelry from Berezny's home at 1075 Main St., Hellertown, Northampton Co., on three separate occasions while Berezny was out of town, officials said.
Berezny told police several relatives had been in her home while she was gone from Dec. 15 through Dec. 18 to put up Christmas decorations, officials said.
Cawley admitted to police that he had sold several pieces of jewelry at several Cash for Gold shops in the Easton area, said officials, adding that only nine of 38 pieces of jewelry Berezny listed as missing were recovered.
Cawley, 25, of 415 West Nesquehoning St., Easton, was arraigned Monday on charges of burglary, criminal trespass, theft and receiving stolen property and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $5,000, according to court documents.
A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. Jan. 30.
