Easton to install parking meters that take credit cards
In less than a week, you'll have more options when feeding the meter in Easton.
Starting Monday, the city is installing 38 parking that will take credit cards. Most of these meters will be around the Northampton County Courthouse, as part of a 90-day trial.
The majority of the meters will be on Seventh Street, from Walnut Avenue to Washington Street, and the rest will be on Washington Street nearest the courthouse.
The hours of the meters will remain the same-- Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a 10-hour maximum time.
The meters will accept all major credit cards, but will require a minimum purchase of $1, or an hour.
Customers will still be able to pay by quarters if they wish, at a rate of 25 cents for 15 minutes.
If cost effective, there are plans to increase the number of these meters to 200 within a year or so, officials said.
The Easton Police Department's traffic division will be working toward a smooth transition and urges the public to contact the police with any feedback on the project.
