Equipment budget takes shape in Forks Township
The Forks Township Board of Supervisors discussed their seven-year projections for the township’s equipment budget at their meeting Thursday night.
Various township departments were represented in the discussion. The fire department is due for new fire trucks and ladder trucks. The parks department will need new pickup trucks, mowing equipment and maintenance equipment for fields. The public works department included new trucks, street sweepers and loaders in their projected equipment list. The zoning and administration department also needs new trucks as well as new IT servers in the administration building and police department.
Because of safety concerns and a need for fully functioning vehicles, the amount of car replacements in the police department was not seen as debatable by the supervisors. Instead, they decided to stagger the replacements over several years so as to alleviate the stress of a large payment in only one year.
The equipment list did not include equipment that will be retired in the next few years and will not be replaced as well as equipment that has become obsolete.
The supervisors fleshed out various aspects of the proposed equipment budget and plan to continue investigating some aspects of this “roadmap,” as they called it.
