Ernesto Chevez arrested for allegedly choking wife, Sulmy, during argument over furniture in Forks
A man was charged after assaulting his wife and throwing her off a porch outside their home during an argument over furniture, officials said.
Ernesto Chevez grabbed his wife Sulmy from behind, walked her out to the porch, put both hands around her neck and shoved her onto the lawn in front of their home at 290 Winchester Drive, Forks Twp., Northampton Co., at about 7:30 p.m. Sunday, officials said. Sulmy Chevez told police she lost consciousness, they added.
Sulmy Chevez's mother, Gladys Portillo, and sister, Rony Figueroa, witnessed the assault, officials said.
Ernesto Chevez, 41, was arraigned on charges of simple and aggravated assault and reckless endangerment and committed to Northampton County Prison on $30,000 bail, according to court documents.
A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. Oct. 24.
