Event puts small business front and center
First there was Black Friday.
Many of you spent the following day at "Small Business Saturday."
"Small Business Saturday" is chance for the little guys to take a bite out of the booming "big-box" crowds this weekend.
And now, in its third year, it's really taking off.
Danielle Mulligan, owner of the Gem Shop, said, "Small Business Saturday is a great time for us."
"Small Business Saturday" started off as a marketing promotion three years ago.
"Ever since then, it's just gotten bigger and bigger,' Mulligan said.
American Express trying to lure customers away from the "big box" stores that take plastic, but rarely, AMEX.
Patricia Mitchell, owner of La Petite Provence, said, "American Express has done a great job in getting in touch with small businesses."
AMEX also offers extra points -- free money -- for customers who shop local.
Many stores pitch-in extra goodies too.
But store owners say it's not just American Express customers coming in.
"We see even a bigger day today than we do Black Friday," Mulligan said. "Last year, it was one of our biggest days of the year."
