Grieving mom seeks justice for slain son
Allentown police are still investigating a homicide that claimed the life of an aspiring rapper from Allentown over the weekend.
Meanwhile, family and friends say they want justice. Friday, they will lay Michael Randolph to rest but Thursday, they were looking to get answers from what they claim was a senseless shooting.
With signs in hand, dozens of family and friends of shooting victim Michael Randolph gathered at a park at Sixth and Tilghman streets in Allentown.
"I am not believe he's dead," said Randolph's mother, Michelle. "It's taken a part of me."
Michelle Randolph is still in shock over the death of her 23-year-old son.
Police say Randolph was shot and killed outside The North End Republican Club on N. Eighth Street in Allentown.
The after-hours club charges people a membership fee to access the bar on Friday and Saturday nights.
The shooting happened just after 3 a.m. Sunday shortly after closing time.
A makeshift memorial has been set up outside.
"[The security guard] said you're not coming in and [Randolph] said you let my friend in. I wanna come in," Michelle Randolph said, recounting what she believes happened. "You know what, bam bam bam. He shot my son. I want justice for my son."
To many, Michael Randolph was known as "O head", an aspiring rapper.
But he was also the father of a two-week-old baby.
"He was a good person and he loved her," said Randolph's girlfriend, Brittany Flores." "If he was here she would have loved him."
Randolph's family thinks a lack of an arrest indicates a cover-up.
But Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin says that's not the case.
"There's no reason for anyone to think there's a cover up," he said. "It's being investigated in due course. People need to exercise patience and make a decision that conforms with the law and is a proper decision."
The DA says the security guard who shot Michael Randolph identified himself to police after the shooting.
Martin says the two security guards were employed by a company contracted by the Republican Club.
