A jury has sided with a mother in her fight against the a local school district.
On Thursday, a federal jury awarded $10,000 to Diana Zhou in a long-running dispute with the Bethlehem Area School District.
The district and Zhou sued each other over a series of complaints she filed concerning her sons' educations.
A judge is still weighing Bethlehem's claim that Zhou abused special education laws to drive up the cost of her sons' schooling so the district would send them to private school.
But Thursday, a jury in Philadelphia found the district's effort to recoup its legal costs from Zhou amounted to retaliation for her advocacy.
Zhou's attorney says her client is a concerned mother who wanted her sons to receive the education they're entitled to. The family has since left the state.
