Lehigh Valley Health Network will oversee emergency services at two area hospitals under an agreement with the Blue Mountain Health System.
Under the agreement, LVHN's emergency medicine administrators will be responsible for operations in the emergency rooms at Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital in Lehighton and Palmerton Hospital in Palmerton.
The current ER doctors at BMHS will continue to provide care for patients. The administrative oversight is similar to existing ER relationships already in place between LVHN and Sacred Heart Hospital in Allentown and Hazleton General Hospital in Hazleton.
In 2009, LVHN and BMHS announced a five-year alliliation agreement to work together to enhance and improve health care for the residents of Carbon County and surrounding areas.
Before thsi affiliation, the two networks have worked together since 2004 to provide advanced cardiac and stroke care, as well as a collaboration for burn care through telemedicine.
“Our partnership with Lehigh Valley Health Network to manage the emergency departments at Gnaden Huetten and Palmerton hospitals will provide a new level of care to the patients and communities we serve,”said Andrew E. Harris, president and chief executive officer of Blue Mountain Health System. “As the healthcare industry evolves and emergency care becomes more complex, we recognized that we needed a partner with the resources that would support our system. This will not only help us increase our level of support to existing hospital clients, but also provide those services so our community does not have to drive a distance for top-quality emergency services.”
