ALLENTOWN, Pa. -

A Lehigh County commissioner is ready to take on the county's top job.

Commissioner Scott Ott plans to announce his candidacy for the Lehigh County Executive position on Thursday.

The announcement will be at 6:30 p.m. at the Hamilton family Restaurant at 2027 W. Hamilton Street in Allentown.

Ott is vice chairman of the commissioners and is also a Republican state committeeperson.

So far he's the only person to announce a campaign.

Allentown School Board President and fellow Republican Robert Smith Jr. said in August he's exploring whether to run.

Current County Executive William Hansell is finishing the term of Don Cunningham.
