A 3-month infant was safely returned to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Lehigh Valley Hospital after the baby's parents took the child against medical advice, a hospital official said.
Tuesday, parents took their little girl out of the hospital, and removing the child from the NICU put the child's health in danger, LVH said.
Hospital security and law enforcement were alerted, the hospital said. Hospital staff continued to try to persuade the parents against removing the girl from the NICU. The parents did not listen and took her from the building but were stopped by authorities at Seventh and Hamilton streets in downtown Allentown less than an hour later.
The incident is now under investigation by the office of Lehigh County Children and Youth.
The baby's mother called 69 News Tuesday night. She said she was trying to take her daughter to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) for a second opinion.
