A man is facing charges after twice reconnecting an electric meter at his home after PPL cut off his power, officials said.
Michael J. Klitchko illegally restored electric power to his rented home at 7036 Debrecen Square, East Allen Twp., Northampton Co., after it had been cut off by PPL on May 8 and May 31, 2012, because Klitchko did not pay his bills, officials said.
On May 8, Klitchko cut a meter seal and removed the meter and two plastic sleeves used to stop the power flow, officials said.
Sometime between May 31 and June 4, Klitchko cut through two high security barrel locks designed to prevent tampering with the meter, officials said.
Klitchko stole $56.50 in electricity, caused $120 in damage to the locks and meter box, and amassed $356.10 in other fees, officials said.
Klitchko, 49, was arraigned Monday morning on charges of theft of services and criminal mischief and released on $5,000 unsecured bail, according to court documents.
A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. Nov. 19.
