Murder victim's family: Justice was served
Manuel Gonzalez, 25, was convicted in death of Devon Robinson
Manuel Gonzalez, 25, was convicted Monday afternoon of 3rd degree murder for the death of 19-year-old Devon Robinson, known to his fans as 'Daze Dysh.'
The verdict was a unanimous decision by the jury, which took just under five hours to deliberate.
The shooting happened in October 2011 outside a gas a station in Allentown.
During the trial, prosecutors said Gonzalez chased an unarmed Robinson and shot him twice, first in the back, then in the head.
The defense argued Gonzalez was first punched by Robinson and the shooting was a heat of the moment incident, with Gonzalez fearing for his life.
Outside the courthouse, Robinson's family says they still feel an emptiness.
“Devon was a great kid. He was on his way to college. He had dreams, he had plans and it was destroyed by gun violence. At this time, we're happy with the verdict and we think that justice was served,” said Ina Singleton, Robinson's stepmother.
Gonzalez was visibly upset and tears could be seen coming to his eyes after the verdict was read.
His sentencing hearing has been scheduled for October 8th., Gonzalez faces a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison.
"This is what the streets are producing now, children with no remorse and guns with no permission...this is what happens," said Singleton.
