A man threw a sucker punch at his girlfriend's dance partner in a bar on St. Patrick's Day and then hit him several more times while the man was being restrained by a bouncer, officials said.
Nicholas J. Montesano suddenly punched Michael Giglio in the side of the head while he was dancing with Montesano's girlfriend, knocking him to the floor of Molly's Irish Grille & Sports Pub, 4 East 4th St., Bethlehem, at 1:30 a.m. March 17, officials said.
Montesano then jumped on Giglio and punched him in the face, and while a bouncer was restraining Giglio, Montesano struck him several more times in the face, officials said.
Giglio ended up with a broken nose, a broken bone underneath his nose, and two of his front teeth knocked out, officials added.
A witness to the fight, Jeff Hank, found out Montesano's identity by asking Montesano's girlfriend who he was, and Hank and a bouncer, Mario Hannah, identified Montesano as the man who started the altercation when they were shown a photo by police, officials said.
Montesano was contacted by police for an interview, but his attorney, Douglas Tkacik, advised Montesano not to speak to them, officials said.
Montesano, 27, of 4361 Anthony Dr., Bethlehem Twp., Northampton Co., was arraigned Thursday night on a charge of aggravated assault and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $25,000 bail, according to court documents.
A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. April 24.
