ALLENTOWN, Pa. -

Regulators have approved PPL rate changes that'll lighten your wallet in the new year.

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission has approved an increase in PPL's distribution charges, plus other changes.

The monthly bill will increase by three percent for the average residential customer whose power is generated by PPL.

The bills for other PPL customers will depend on their power suppliers' prices.

PPL says the rate hike compensates for higher costs,  the continuing cost of last year's storms, and system improvements.

The new rates will also give PPL $71 million in extra revenue.
