PALMER TWP., Pa. -

The Palmer Township Supervisors approved a slight increase for the police department rates for hiring officers' to patrol special events.

Police are used for mall patrol, Easton Area School District events and the Tracy School traffic posts. The mall patrol and EASD special events are set at a rate of $57 an hour. Tracy School police posts are $40 an hour due to using police who are on duty.

"It covers the hourly rate [for the Tracy School posts,]" Police Chief Larry Palmer said, "The others are done with overtime and special officers are called in."

If a patrol car is used, the set rate is now $13 an hour.

"We're not making any money, we're breaking even," Chief Palmer explained. Supervisor Ann-Marie Panella made the motion, with a second from Supervisor K. Michael Mitchell.

The decision passed unanimously by the Board.
