Pen Argyl School Board recognizes student athletes
Pen Argyl School Board recognized the athletic and academic accomplishments of five students Tuesday evening at its meeting.
These five students had been recognized by other organizations in Lehigh and Northampton counties for their successes as Lehigh Valley athletes and the board took time at its meeting to introduce them to the audience. Each athlete was awarded a certificate from the school board.
They represented the wrestling, football, women's tennis, men's soccer and women's swimming teams, boasting such accomplishments as the first three-time state wrestling champion from Pen Argyl, the first Pen Argyl swimmer to place in the top 8 at the PIAA swimming finals, two varsity letters in tennis.
But Superintendent Dr. William Haberl was more impressed with their accomplishments in school saying, "education will carry you forward. You've made us proud on the field and in the classroom."
The five students will be attending the University of Pittsburgh, Ithaca College, Bloomsburg University and East Stroudsburg University.
They will all graduate with averages over 90 percent and were in the top 50 ranks of their class.
