The driver of a box truck was killed in an accident that closed a stretch of Interstate 78 for about eight hours on Tuesday, police said.

The accident happened shortly before 7 a.m. on Interstate 78 East, approaching Morgan Hill Road, in Williams Twp., Northampton Co.

The box truck was parked on the shoulder of the highway when it was hit by the tractor trailer, said police, who noted that the box truck was pushed forward until it rolled onto its side.

The tractor trailer swerved to the left and crossed both eastbound lanes of 78 before coming to a rest in the grassy median, police said.

The driver of the box truck, Rocco Antonelli, 58, of Philadelphia, died at the scene, the coroner said.

State police are asking any witnesses to call the Belfast station at 610-759-6106.

The eastbound lanes of Interstate 78 were closed for eight hours while police conducted their on-scene investigation and crews removed the wreckage.
