Police: Jose Rivera says 'take me to jail' after assaulting girlfriend
Argument over money, cigarettes preceeded assault, police say
A man told police to "take me to jail" after his girlfriend called for help when an argument turned physical, officials said.
Jose A. Rivera punched his girlfriend on the side of her head during a quarrel over money and cigarettes in their apartment in the 500 block of Broadway in Bethlehem at about 8:50 p.m. Tuesday, officials said.
Rivera had been breaking things in the home before the attack, officials added.
Rivera was found inside an apartment next door, and when he answered the door, he turned around, put his hands behind his back and told police, "I punched her in the head. Take me to jail."
Rivera, 41, was arraigned on assault and harassment charges and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $3,500 bail, according to court documents.
A preliminary hearing is set for 9:30 a.m. March 22.
