BETHLEHEM, Pa. -

A man is facing charges after trying to buy a bottle of juice with funny money, officials said.

Robert A. Lawrence was arrested after police examined a $50 bill he handed to a clerk for a $1.79 botle of juice at the Taylor Family Mini-Mart at 309 South New St., Bethlehem, at about 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, officials said.

Lawrence admitted to police that he knew the money was fake before he tried to buy the juice, officials said.

Lawrence, 20, of 519 First Ave., Bethlehem, was arraigned on a forgery charge and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $5,000 bail, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. Oct. 12.
