Power restored to Gracedale nursing home in Upper Nazareth
Electricity was restored to Gracedale, the Northampton County nursing home, Friday afternoon, according to PPL and Ross Marcus, the county’s director of human services.
Gracedale had been powered by generators since the electricity went out during Hurricane Sandy.
One of the facility’s four backup generators failed around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Marcus said, but it was back up and running by 11:30 that same night.
PPL lent the nursing home an additional generator, which helped the facility keep up with the constant laundry services that a nursing home requires, Marcus said.
Residents had hot water, said Marcus, adding that air temperature checks were conducted every 30 to 60 minutes, and the building operated within state-mandated standards.
Lighting was dimmed within the facility, but Marcus said there was no danger to residents, who were being served a cold-meal menu and snacks.
PPL told 69 News it had three crews actively working on the power issues at Gracedale.
