BETHLEHEM, Pa. -

A Northampton County prosecutor hopes to fill a vacant seat on the bench of the Northampton County Court of Common Pleas.

Abe Kassis announced Wednesday his candidacy for judge in the May primary election.

Kassis said he has prosecuted hundreds of criminal cases, including homicides, burglaries, and drug offenses, since joining the district attorney's office more than 14 years ago.

Kassis also maintains a private practice, representing hundreds of clients in a variety of civil cases over the past two decades.

“Abe’s experience as an assistant district attorney and a civil litigator is the kind of experience we expect and deserve in a judge," said Theresa Hogan, Kassis' campaign chair. "He will bring a unique and balanced perspective to the bench."

Kassis, who grew up in the Lehigh Valley, is admitted to practice law before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court and federal courts.
