When Sandy was a hurricane at sea Monday, the city of Easton was preparing for the worst, but hoping for the best.

Not a lot of people were on the street Monday, but some did brave the elements to get last minute items.

Electrical contractors used much of the day to stage vehicles before the power went out around the area.

Then Mother Nature took over. A downed tree in the 1000 block of Island Park Road barely missed taking out power lines.

Signs at Larry Holmes Drive were almost blowing off the pole. Then just feet away in Phillipsburg, N.j., all of Main Street went dark just after 8 p.m.
